Subchapter 2.2
Digital Transformation

Milestones Completed

Over the past three years, Hotelschool The Hague has embarked on a comprehensive digital transformation journey, achieving significant milestones while setting ambitious aspirations for the future.

One noteworthy achievement was the successful implementation of an updated intranet for students. This modernised platform has streamlined communication and information sharing enhancing the student experience and facilitating access to vital resources and information.

During the global pandemic, huge steps were taken to further digital learning and teaching as well as online assessments. All educational professionals were facilitated in continuing their work online during the various lock-down periods. The push for blended learning has continued following the pandemic with for instance the creation of AV materials for courses and for remedial classes.

Another milestone was the effective deployment of the "ANS" digital assessment tool. Hotelschool The Hague has set its sights on creating a system for conducting assessments that can be distributed across multiple locations or accessed digitally, complete with robust student data and analytics on their learning journey. The successful use of "ANS" exemplifies the institution's commitment to data-informed education.

Hotelschool The Hague has established its own AV studio with a studio space on campus The Hague and a flexible space in Amsterdam. The AV-studio is run by two AV specialists who have extensive experience in both producing AV materials and in education.

To further foster digital transformation within the institute, we have created a Digital Transformation Hub (Dx Hub). The Dx Hub is responsible for amongst others improving digital assessments and the tendering for the Learning Management System.

In June 2023, a two-day conference was organised by our Research Centre on the impact of Hospitality Robotics. The programme included several keynotes on topics such as Integrating AI into the Hospitality Workforce, Understanding and Shaping New Worker-robot Relations in Hospitality and Responsibly Developing Hospitality Robotics as well as a panel discussion on the question: “Will robots humanize service in hospitality?” The event was attended by colleagues from multiple departments and reflects the focus of faculty, industry and the curriculum on the digital transformations within our era.

Future Aspirations

As part of its commitment to enhancing the learning experience, Hotelschool The Hague has undertaken a tender for a new learning management system. This initiative seeks to ensure we continue to have a modern and efficient system that can properly manage course materials, student data, and the overall learning process.

In a bid to enhance data management, the institution is migrating from the K drive to Microsoft SharePoint. This transition will offer improved data organisation, collaboration, and accessibility, further streamlining administrative processes.

To enrich the learning experience, HTH continues to provide audio-visual and augmented reality resources for both students and lecturers, fostering interactive and engaging learning environments.

The establishment of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is another significant endeavor. By combining available resources and aiming for NPULS (The National Growth Programme) subsidy in 2024, this initiative will support professional development of staff and digital competencies through an improved digital infrastructure.

Hotelschool The Hague is dedicated to supporting blended learning, combining in-person and online instruction.

The institution is committed to lifelong learning opportunities, with a "LLO" initiative planned to provide specialised credits and courses for students and professionals to continue their education and skill development while furthering their goals.

Furthermore, Hotelschool The Hague aspires to promote research integration within the institution, enabling students and faculty to engage in research projects and initiatives. Additionally, instead of watching and observing other institutions, HTH actively seeks out and participates in research and innovation. For example, HTH joined TU Delft and RoboHouse to experiment with ‘hospitality robotics,’ which tests how robots and people work together in a realistic hotel environment.

In June 2024, the HTH Research Centre will organize THE INC 2024 conference on Technology Enabled Competitiveness and Experiences in Tourism, Hospitality and Events. This conference explores the multifaceted impacts of technology on the hospitality, tourism, and events industries. This will provide another opportunity for HTH staff and students to engage with professionals on the intersection of innovation, competitiveness, and guest experiences.

Lastly, the institution is exploring the role of technology in real-life learning experiences. This includes utilising tools such as Mews, a cloud-based property management system and data, to enhance real-life learning by simulating practical, hands-on situations for students.

As Hotelschool The Hague continues its digital transformation journey, it is poised to create a cutting-edge educational environment that leverages technology to its fullest potential, benefiting both students and faculty while staying at the forefront of innovation in the field of hospitality and hotel management education.
